Online vs In-Person Hypnotherapy: What's the Difference?

Honest answer: for most people, online works just as well as in-person - and often slightly better for regression work specifically. That's a surprising answer to a lot of people, so it's worth understanding why.

The work happens inside you. The practitioner's job is to guide that inner process, which works through voice and presence regardless of whether you're in the same room. What matters more is how comfortable you feel and how easy it is to settle.

If you've been waiting to book because you assumed in-person was the 'real' way, this page may settle it for you.

Comparing Online and In-Person Hypnotherapy

Why online often works better than people expect

Three reasons online usually works well:

  • You're already in your own space. No unfamiliar room to adjust to, no travel, no decompressing.
  • You have your own blanket, cushions, lighting, and anything else that helps you feel safe.
  • You can relax immediately without the social energy of being in someone else's physical presence.

For regression work specifically, these advantages matter more than most people realise. The state we're trying to reach is easier to enter when your body already feels at home.

When in-person is genuinely better

There are a few situations where in-person is worth the extra effort:

  • You genuinely struggle to focus without physical presence - some people do
  • Your home environment is too noisy or interrupted to create a quiet hour
  • You deeply prefer the ritual of 'going somewhere' for therapeutic work
  • You want to build a physical therapeutic relationship alongside the inner work

None of these are small things. If any of them apply, they may tip the balance toward in-person for you.

What online sessions need practically

The practical setup is simple:

  • A laptop, tablet, or phone with working camera and microphone
  • A reliable internet connection
  • Headphones (strongly recommended - they make my voice feel much closer)
  • A comfortable chair or sofa where you can recline
  • A quiet window of 90 to 120 minutes without interruption
  • A blanket and water within reach

The what to expect in your online session page walks through the full setup.

What to consider when choosing

The honest question to ask yourself is: where will I actually relax more deeply? For most people, that's at home. For some, it's a practitioner's quiet room with its own atmosphere. Neither is wrong.

These sessions are a complementary wellness practice, not medical or psychological treatment. A free consultation is a good way to figure out which format suits you best. I work almost entirely online, so if in-person is essential to you, I may not be the right fit - and I'll say so honestly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. I watch your breathing, facial expression, and posture. It's remarkably easy to tell from video - almost as easy as from the same room.

It's rare, but we have a plan. You stay in the relaxed state while we reconnect, and pick up where we left off. Most sessions run with no technical issue at all.

Some people are convinced it will and are then surprised. Once the session begins and your eyes close, the difference between in-person and online becomes almost invisible.

Yes. I work with clients internationally. Time zones are usually workable. The online regression hypnotherapy effectiveness page covers this.

Almost all of my work is online, for the reasons above. If in-person is essential to you, I'll gently point you toward practitioners who offer it.
